April 10th, 2020 Update

Greetings Church, Welcome to Good Friday! UPDATES/PRAYER 1.  Please join us for our live-streamed Good Friday Gathering this evening.  Live-stream will come on perhaps as early as 6:00 PM.  The Gathering will begin at 6:30 PM. Our YouTube channel link is below.  But would you also join with us in praying that every single person the Spirit prompts to join us will indeed do so, that many of us will come with prepared hearts, that the only spirit to dominate our time will be the Holy Spirit, and that all will catch precisely what the Lord wants them to catch from this time! (Please check yesterday's update for details in preparing to interactively participate tonight)! 2.  If you would like to be added to the "porch visit" list, please email me at  Marlene and I will begin contacting those who responded early next week to set up a time to come and pray, social distancing style! 3.  Please be in prayer for the Hootman family. Doug has tested positive for COVID-19.  Bev and the children have been sick for weeks as well and assume they may have it too, but they have not been approved for testing.  Please pray for encouragement, protection, and healing for this family. 4.  Please be in prayer for Rick Kennedy (Cindy's son, Kim's  brother) who is in day 12 of dealing with Covid-19!  It has been especially hard because Rick is single and lives in Cranberry Township, PA...some 200 miles away. We have been able to contact a sister Alliance church there and they have been able to bring food and supplies and prayer encouragement!  Rick is seeing inch by inch improvement. We are joining with Rick and the family in even praying for an Easter wake up on Easter morning able to shout "Christ is risen" and be symptom free! THIRTEENTH BIBLICAL STATION OF THE CROSS- Jesus dies! (Mark 15:33-37, Luke 23:44-46)- adapted from "The Unvarnished Jesus" In our journey through the Passion of Christ and arrive at the death of Jesus, we indeed are standing on holy ground! As Jesus neared his death he cried out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"  These wrenching words are the opening lines of Psalm 22, also known as the Psalm of the Cross. As we read the beginning of the Psalm it is as if we are brought into the last thoughts of our dying Messiah.  Phrases like, "all who see me laugh and scorn", "all my bones are out of joint", my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth", and "they pierce my hands and feet, they divide my garments among them, they cast lots for my clothing", incredibly reflect a reality happening a thousand years later! But let's not forget there is more to the Psalm as it continues.  Words like, "For he did not ignore nor scorn the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from me, but heard when I cried to him!" God did not kill Jesus' evil killed Jesus...but God allowed such to be so that we might be healed.  Jesus knows what it feels like to seemingly be forsaken by God and he cried out with the kind of bewilderment perhaps we cry out with in times of overwhelming difficulty.  But in his death, never forget that Jesus committed his spirit into the hands of the Father who he knows will rescue him and raise him up!  Sometimes when we have done all we know to do in our desperate times, there's nothing more to be done than to commit ourselves from the weakest of hands into the strongest of hands, the hands of the God who will never abandon us! GLIMPSES OF GRACE We call today "Good Friday", but as it unfolded and things went from bad to worse, "Bad Friday" or "Dark Friday" seems a more apt description.  We only call it "Good Friday" because we know the rest of the story! And part of the beauty of grace, even in the toughest times, is simply this...we know the rest of the Story...and what a sweet smelling story of grace it is!  "See" you tonight! In Christ, Pastor Tim
